On March 5, 2025, tragedy struck the community of Crestwood, Illinois, with the untimely death of 46-year-old Dane Koteski, the CEO and president of ATG Truckload, a prominent trucking company. Koteski, originally from Macedonia, was known for his generosity and active involvement in the local Serbian church and car club. He leaves behind a 13-year-old son, Kiko, who is now facing the profound loss of his father.
The incident unfolded when firefighters responded to reports of heavy smoke emanating from the ATG Truckload building on South Kostner Avenue. Upon extinguishing the flames, they discovered Koteski’s lifeless body on the second floor. An autopsy later confirmed that he had suffered fatal neck injuries inflicted by a sharp object, leading authorities to classify his death as a homicide.
Swift investigative efforts by the Crestwood Police Department, in collaboration with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the State Fire Marshals, led to the identification of a suspect—a longtime employee of Koteski. The suspect was apprehended without incident at a truck stop in Holland, Michigan, approximately 145 miles northeast of Crestwood. He remains in custody, awaiting extradition to Illinois to face charges of murder and arson.
Neighbors and community members have expressed deep sorrow over Koteski’s death, highlighting his role as a devoted father and active community member. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support funeral expenses and to assist Kiko with his educational and living costs. The campaign has garnered significant support, reflecting the community’s collective grief and desire to honor Koteski’s memory.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the community remains united in mourning, remembering Koteski for his kindness, generosity, and the positive impact he had on those around him.
